Traffic back up

Accident on Us 131 north and south bound, up to 81 car pile up. North bound is backed up to grand rapids and south bound Is backed up up to 10 miles, traffic is being re-routed at cedar springs. Also on M 46 traffic is backed up almost to M 37 because of the accident. > reply

USer Comment Doug: I know these conditions catch drivers by surprise with the first snow fall near freezing, and every driver has to adjust to the new environment every early Winter, but IMO, we also have a huge problem with tailgating. If the entire state would crack down on tailgaters,(I have seen people tailgating the Police for crying out loud), and nail them for $50.00, each city would probably bring in more revenue than drunk driving does, and more accidents will be prevented than drunk driving arrests prevent. Some conditions are really tricky, even if you don't tailgate (like sudden 'white out' conditions for a stretch of road; don't slow to a crawl, and you might hit somebody; slow to a crawl, and you may get rear ended), but you would be surprised how staying away from groups of cars (not easy to do at 5:00 rush our, maniac traffic), and do not tailgate, how may accidents you will never be close to. Tail gating is for drafting in NASCAR and road bicycle racing. Anywhere else, and you get sucked into the mistake the guy in front of you made. 8 years ago > REPLY
