Hit and Run Accident Ends With Arrest of Suspect

An Ocala, FL resident, minor (whose name is not being listed, in accordance with Florida statue 42 P.S. 6301 et. seq), and attendee of Westport High School as senior, was cited with fleeing the scene of an accident involving property damage, with property belonging to the victim of the accident. The incident occurred in the 'Gator's Dockside' restaurant parking lot at approximately 7:26 p.m. on Saturday, February 28th, 2015. The suspect was a 17 year old female, operating a 2003 Isuzu Rodeo sport-utility vehicle. While operating the motor vehicle in reverse, the female began utilizing the horn, in an attempt to scare five individuals that she recognized and associated with past discrepancies, walking peacefully across the parking lot, three of which were minors below the age of 16 years old. It appears that the operator of the vehicle was so intently drawn into expressing her anger, that she inadvertently reversed directly into the back of a 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, inflicting minor damage to the rear, passenger side of the chrome bumper. After clearly realizing that she had just backed into another vehicle, the female driver of the Isuzu Rodeo turned off her headlights and quickly fled the scene. There were at least 6 witnesses of the incident, one of which a retired Ocala Police Officer, who proceeded to verify that the pickup truck was unoccupied and then contacted the appropriate authorities. The remaining 5 witnesses did in fact have a former relationship with the female driver, and were able to provide officers with the individual's name, as well as contact information. Upon location of the owner of the 2007 Toyota Tundra, a brief consultation resulted in the desire to press criminal charges against the individual who caused the accident. An arrest warrant was immediately issued for the detainment of the female minor on the misdemeanor charge of fleeing the scene of an accident with property damage of an unoccupied vehicle. The female driver as well as her mother were immediately contacted by the responding officer, and they were advised to return to the scene. The female and her mother willingly returned, denying that the female driver had knowledge of the accident occurring, though, the truck had been physically pushed forward by the impact of the two vehicles colliding. At this time, it is unclear if the female was advised of her rights and formally arrested, however, she was issued a citation for the incident, as well as a Notice to Appear at a court hearing. > reply
